TMW presents more than 100 free concerts in the city

Tallinn Music Week (TMW) city festival taking place from 28th March to 3rd April in the capital of Estonia, will present the most extensive city stage programme to date. 105 artists will perform during 4 afternoons at 21 different venues in cafés, galleries, shops, design studios, even in a regular city tram.

The City Stage programme kicks off at 13:00 on the 30th March with a very special kids’ rave by meisterjaan, a local ethno techno sensation, in Viru Keskus shopping centre that will host almost 20 gigs from Wednesday to Saturday. The performers range from Estonian art-rock band The Princes to Israeli-Afrobeat group Fula Express. Viru Keskus is also the location for the TMW info desk where passes can be exchanged for festival wristbands.

As new stages in the City Stage programme TMW is happy to present the building of Interior Architecture Department of Estonian Academy of Arts in the Old Town, Nunne Street, the impressive classicist Signature House in North Tallinn, the ultimate destination for coffee delights, Renard Coffee Shop in the artsy Kalamaja neighbourhood, and Scandinavian style coffee-bar August in the Old Town. The former industrial area Noblessner Quarter will host two stages: in the Shipyard Foundry and the Haiku design bureau. TMW will also finally move outdoors – in a special cooperation of TMW with young interior architects an outdoor stage will be designed for Musumägi (Kissing Hill) right next to the main entrance to the Old Town. Three families will also open their homes for free concerts.

Funky Bus
The Finnish funk band Eternal Erection will park their Woodstock-style motor coach Funky Bus between the railway station and Telliskivi area, where they will be joined by the bravest Estonian and Latvian soul/funk combos. The microbrewery festival Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend (TCBW) at the Noblessner Foundry will see groups like Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobics VHS? (FIN) and Narcosatanicos (DK) in a competition for the loudest volume and craziest band name.

A cause célèbre of the City Stage programme will be the grand final of the TMW, Telia and Spotify “Make Your Own Party” competition – a concert by young crooner Jüri Pootsmann and his band in the regular city tram no 4 at 12-12:30 on 31st March. Pootsmann has just been voted as the Estonian entry to this year’s Eurovision song competition.
