Erki Laar is a Toronto-born turntablist time traveller with deep Estonian roots. He's an experimental producer, singer, DJ and instrumentalist who has returned to the stage under his own name with a brand new, deeply personal focus inspired by a connection to his cultural roots that was sparked by digging through the piles of dusty wax in the archives of the Estonian-Canadian Museum (VEMU). He then began experimenting with new ways of interpreting the Estonian folk song tradition. His original pieces are built around the many hopes and deepest pains of his country's troubled past and the manifestation of these experiences in the present. What began as a one-off live stream performance in 2021 gave way to festival appearances and is now the basis of his forthcoming EP (March 2024) and a brand new multimedia live show to be unveiled in 2024.
