Avant-Garde, Experimental, Instrumental

Gilles Deles-Velins has had a mystical relationship with sound and music since childhood, and his music-making can be likened to a construction kit game, where the music as a whole is more than the sum of the sounds. For him, sound has a kind of kinship with the concept of pneuma in Stoic philosophy. Sound expects to be found in order to become music, lying there in an intuitive background, and his identity can be puzzling, as he hasn't only written music in an experimental style. His musical approach can be compared to that of Jim O'Rourke, in the variety of styles they both try to embrace. He now lives in Latvia, where music is part of everyday life and an essential part of Latvian identity. He has started a YouTube channel dedicated to sound and music techniques and has a forthcoming project dedicated to interviews with Latvian contemporary classical composers.
