Due to TMW 2020 being postponed from March to August, TMW Kids programme will be updated towards the summer. Till then take a look at what was planned for March.
On Saturday March 28 at 11:00 – 15:00, the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre and Vivistop Telliskivi will feature workshops as part of TMW Kids programme, where one can learn, among other things, to make a clarinet out of a carrot, spin records and draw up fancy performance outfits for paper dolls representing TMW artists. Instructors include musicians Elina Nechayeva, Ewert Sundja and meisterjaan. Admission to the workshops is free of charge.
TMW 2020 Kids programme is presented by the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre.

The concert of Marten Altrov (clarinet) and Sven-Sander Šestakov (piano) takes us on a trip around the world. We are also introduced to many composers and their music, as well as different dances. A fun and virtuosic concert!
11:00 Workshop 1: From a Carrot to a Clarinet!
We will be turning a regular carrot into a clarinet with little effort. NB! Our toolbox includes the drill. The workshop is for kids 8 and older. One workshop can accommodate 10 children.

We will be throwing together some pieces of wood, make a guitar out of them. and then noodle away as much as we can. The workshop is for kids 8 and older. One workshop can accommodate 10 children.
11:00 Workshop 3: Veggie Jam!
Forget the flute, try the tomato instead! Let’s combine technology with vegetables and put an entire orchestra together! With the help of Playtronica, we will be making electronic music with fruits and vegetables. The workshop is for kids 8 and older. One workshop can accommodate 10 children.

Music workshops at the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre
13:00 Marten Altrov and Sven-Sander Šestakov: Catchy Classics!
We will be getting to know the clarinet and piano in detail. In addition, we will improvise variations to a children’s song of choice on spot. Warning, classical music can be contagious!
13:00 Ewert Sundja: Scoring the Animated Movie “Raggie”
The children’s book “Raggie” might have been a part of every Estonian’s childhood. For Ewert Sundja, music and making music is an important part of his life. In the workshop, he will talk about how you can use music to make a situation sad or happy, and look back at the process of scoring “Raggie”, all the way from the very first ideas to the songs it features now. Participants will also try to depict their favourite cartoon characters in music together.
13:00 Heidy Purga: Secrets of the DJ Trade
Everyone can try their hands on vinyl players and other electronic gadgets, and naturally also the mixing board to mix songs together.
13:00 & 14:00 Kertu Sillaste: The Superstar’s Super Costumes
Kertu Sillaste is an illustrator and art teacher, as well as instructor for the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre Art Chamber. Under her guidance, participants can think and draw up unprecedentedly exciting performance outfits for paper dolls representing TMW artists. This is done by using different copying, cutting and taping techniques. It is a feasible activity for everyone.
14:00 Elina Nechayeva: Classical Song Workshop
The beloved soprano shares her musical experiences of participating in the Estonian Classical Stars competition, representing Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest, and encourages children to study classical song. With Elina, kids can practice exciting vocal exercises and play with your voice. Schoolchildren interested in singing are welcome.
14:00 meisterjaan: Mouth Harp Madness
Jaan introduces the story of the mouth harp and his own journey with the instrument. He introduces all the main playing techniques. A number of mouth harps can be found on-spot!
TMW Kids programme is a musical event aimed at families with children aged 7-16 that brings together children, parents and friends to collectively take a closer look into the world of music, get inspiration and feedback from professionals and a kick from doing things yourself. TMW Kids programme directs attention to schoolchildren’s musical activities in general, as well as the fact that musical education must be guaranteed for everyone – different age groups, communities, language groups etc.
