hakosalo_tuohino is a duo for kantele and computer that explores what emerges when ancient traditions meet experimental electronic music. Kantele’s distinctive voice – with its sharp attack and mellow, calming sustain – finds new expression through extended playing techniques, venturing into unexplored sonic territories. Together, the duo crafts acoustic and immersive soundscapes through intuitive, open-ended exploration. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds in folk, classical, jazz, and electronic music, the performers embrace spontaneity, working without preset structural constraints. Kantele's traditional improvisatory nature creates a natural bridge to freeform electroacoustic performance. Formed in January 2024, the duo has already performed across Finland, Japan, Canada, and Lithuania. They recently composed a commissioned piece for Swedish experimental ensemble Elefantöra, which premiered at Nordic Music Days in Glasgow.
