MONOMONOBE
MONOMONO formed as a band in 2016 when violinist and sound designer Hester Bolle met musician, composer and visual artist Anne van de Star.
They operate at the intersection of electro-acoustic experimentation, classical sounds and techno with a hint of pop. Their sound can be described as a new approach to electronic composing, combining genres between sound design, synthetic sound art, poetry, danceable beats and noise with dark, technoid walls of sound. They also regularly work on multimedia installations and commissions for film, theatre and video games.
In 2022, they became artists in residence at TRIX in Antwerp, Belgium. Other residencies took place at BLEEK in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, Gold Records Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Tiyatro İkincikat in Istanbul, Turkey. The album ICON, which resulted from their research in Istanbul, was released on the international label Diffuse Reality Records, which operates out of Berlin, Barcelona and Buenos Aires.
