Vilma JääFI

Vilma Jää is an ethnopop artist who masterfully blends traditional folk instruments with synth beats, weaving Finnish-Ugrian vocal traditions into modern pop aesthetics. Her music addresses feminist and contemporary issues through a historical lens, revealing how little the world has changed, particularly regarding women's rights and experiences. Her groundbreaking debut album Kosto earned dual recognition at the Emma Gala (Finnish Music Awards), winning both the Ethno of the Year and Folk Music Album of the Year awards in 2024. Jää creates her distinctive sound in collaboration with producer-composer Mikko Renfors. Beyond her solo career, Jää performs in "Innocence," the final opera by renowned Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, where she has garnered international acclaim for both her folk singing techniques and her interpretation of a role specifically written for her.
