Noblessner Art Tour

Fri, 10 Apr, 16:30 – 18:00

Starting point: in front of Temnikova & Kasela Gallery (Peetri 12)

Participants: Temnikova & Kasela Gallery, Punctum Gallery, Tütar Gallery, Kai Art Centre

Join us in discovering the history of the Noblessner quarter whilst visiting Kai Art Center and three galleries. The unique character of Noblessner is shaped by historically significant industrial buildings preserved as cultural monuments, which speak to the story of Estonian statehood, economic history, and an art-loving approach to urban development.

The tour begins at Temnikova & Kasela Gallery, one of the leading contemporary art galleries in the region, representing both Estonian and international artists. Next is Punctum Gallery, which specialises in contemporary art with an emphasis on photography, presenting artists engaged with current social and artistic issues. The coastal Tütar Gallery focuses on introducing the younger generation of Estonian artists to audiences at home and abroad.

The tour ends at Kai Art Center, housed in the heritage-protected Noblessner factory building restored in 2019, which offers exhibitions, film programmes and art events with an international reach—the beating heart of the region’s art scene.

The tour continues through two Estonian Artists’ Association galleries—Draakoni and Hobusepea —both committed to non-profit exhibitions of contemporary art, solo projects by leading Estonian artists, and collaborative association projects. Next is the Estonian Architecture Museum, celebrating its 35th anniversary this season. Special Noblessner Tour for international press by Indrek Kasela

Saturday, 11 April, 18:00–19:00

Come and find out how a former submarine shipyard, founded in 1913 by entrepreneurs Emanuel Nobel, nephew of Alfred Nobel, and Gustav Lessner, became one of Tallinn’s most thriving neighbourhoods on the banks of the bay. A place where grand industrial architecture and high-end residential living coexists with a genuinely vibrant cultural scene — home to HALL, the finest techno venue in the Baltics, a constellation of underground haunts, art institutions and a cinema. And somehow, against all urban logic, everyone gets along.

The tour is led by an entrepreneur, investor and culture promoter Indrek Kasela, one of the visionaries behind the district’s development and the founder of KIKUMU — famously described as a “festival with no arseholes.”  A rare opportunity to stroll through Noblessner with this renaissance man, whose contribution has left a lasting mark on Estonia’s cultural and business landscape. Hear first-hand how urban renewal in Tallinn connects to a wider cultural movement — and get an exclusive preview of the next KIKUMU chapter, set on the modernist campus of Jäneda in Lääne-Viru County.

The tour is in English.

Spots are limited, pre-registration required.

Linnahall Tour

TMW visitors have a rare opportunity to step inside Tallinn’s legendary Linnahall – a monumental former concert venue usually closed to the public. This unique tour by the Estonian Centre for Architecture takes participants behind the scenes of one of Tallinn’s most iconic buildings.

Built for the 1980 Moscow Olympics regatta held in Tallinn, Linnahall was designed by Raine Karp together with Riina Altmäe and Ülo Sirp and stands as one of the most remarkable examples of Soviet-era architecture in Estonia. Over the years, many international stars have performed on its stage, and in 2020 the building gained global attention as a filming location for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, where it served as the Kyiv Opera House.

During the 90-minute guided tour, visitors will explore spaces normally closed to the public and hear stories about the building’s architecture, history, and cultural legacy.

Tours are led by professional guides from the Estonian Centre for Architecture.
