Sophia Mitiku is easily recognisable by her exploratory sound that hovers between experimental R&B and avant-pop. She skilfully creates a liminal space of intros, outros and middles, using yearning, poetic vocals, well-placed speech segments and dreamy, honey-soaked sounds to create a pop sensibility that doesn't scream for attention, but earns it through sonic seduction. Her music reflects on daydreams and desire, loss and longing – the glitch of nostalgia. Following the release of her debut album Copacabana, she was nominated for the Indie Awards Artist of the Year and has spent the summer of 2023 performing at festivals across Finland. Sophia Mitiku is currently working on her second album all sickness is homesickness, which will be released in spring 2024.
