Chaos String QuartetAT, DE, HU, IT, NL
The Chaos String Quartet emerged from a well-known violist joke about a "world-famous quartet looking for all its members". United by curiosity and courage, four international artists took their first steps as a quartet in Vienna in 2019.
Their name reflects both mythological chaos—the primal state where all elements coexist—and scientific chaos, where small impulses shape vast outcomes. When the world paused soon after their founding, the quartet used the time to forge a distinct voice through intense study and experimentation.
This spirit has led to prizes at major competitions (ARD, Bordeaux, among others) and inspiration from mentors such as Johannes Meissl and Steven Isserlis. Known for imaginative programmes that bridge eras and styles, the Chaos Quartet blends tradition and contemporary music with vitality and depth. Former BBC New Generation Artists (2023–25), they appear regularly at leading venues including Wigmore Hall, the Musikverein, and the Concertgebouw.
