High HiBE

Emerging from Belgium's fertile underground with the quiet assurance of those who know exactly what they're doing, this trio has methodically carved out a space where atmospheric experimentation and razor-sharp pop sensibilities coexist in perfect equilibrium. The Antwerp-based trio (Anne-Sophie Ooghe on vocals and guitar, Dieter Beerten on vocals and drums, and Koen Weverbergh on bass) debuted with a dreamy, shoegaze-infused style that evolved across releases into a nuanced balance of introspection and accessible hooks. Their sonic fingerprint, at once familiar yet impossible to categorise, caught the discerning ear of M83 and tastemaker Steve Lamacq, whose early BBC championing served as international validation. The band's recorded output, particularly the breakthrough Firepool and its more ambitious follow-up Return to Dust, reveals a group consistently pushing boundaries whilst maintaining accessibility. These collections showcase High Hi's eye for crafting moments where ethereal, gossamer textures suddenly crystallise into propulsive, kinetic rhythms that lodge in the consciousness and refuse to leave. In an indie landscape increasingly defined by pastiche, they've staked their claim on territory unmistakably their own, hinting that their most compelling transmissions may still be ahead. That sense of arrival and anticipation is exactly what they showcase on the band's new album, Noonday Demon.
